The Strategic Alliance Between Adam and Colt: 10 Years Driving Connectivity and the Digital Future

For over a decade, Adam and Colt have maintained a strategic collaboration that has evolved to meet the growing demands for advanced connectivity, high-quality services, and digital expansion. This alliance, built on expertise and innovation, strengthens both companies’ roles as leaders in the digital transformation in Spain and Europe.

A strategic collaboration shaping the future

The relationship between Adam and Colt began over 10 years ago and has since grown into one of the most significant partnerships in the data centre and connectivity sector. During this period, Colt has become a key provider for Adam, supplying transit services and point-to-point (P2P) networks in the data centres that Adam operates in Madrid and Barcelona.

This collaboration has enabled Adam to offer neutral and robust connectivity solutions, a feature that, according to David Ribalta, Head of Sales and Marketing at Adam, is essential: “Neutral connectivity is a fundamental pillar of our service offering. Having a wide range of operators in our centres is key to building a high-quality connectivity ecosystem that allows our clients to deploy their critical services with complete security. In this regard, Colt provides the reliability, capacity, and competitiveness necessary for Adam to deliver a distinct and outstanding value proposition.

Market Positioning: Leaders in Connectivity and Infrastructure

Adam, as a leading provider of data centre services, IaaS, and connectivity, operates as an Autonomous System (AS15699) in Barcelona and Madrid. This positioning enables it to manage strategic connections with multiple transit providers and neutral points, ensuring efficient global access.

Colt, in turn, is the largest international fibre optic operator, renowned for its global network that connects over 1,200 data centres and strategic locations worldwide. Its low-latency and high-availability services are essential for businesses running critical applications.

    Barcelona: An Expanding Digital Hub

In recent years, the province where two of Adam’s data centres are located—and where the fourth, currently under construction, will be—Barcelona, has established itself as a strategic point in the European technology landscape. The city combines digital talent, advanced infrastructure, and a privileged location, making it an attractive hub for global businesses.

    A Growing Ecosystem

The city has experienced a significant increase in international investment and the number of tech startups, growing by 86% since 2016. Additionally, infrastructures such as the MareNostrum supercomputer and the Barcelona Cable Landing Station strengthen the region’s international connectivity, facilitating access to critical submarine networks.

    Installed Power in Data Centres

The development of new data centres, such as Adam’s upcoming facility in Parc de l’Alba, marks an expected increase in the region’s installed power. This expansion highlights Barcelona’s growing importance as a strategic Mediterranean hub for digital connectivity.

In this regard, Christian Schmidt, Network Expansion Manager for Southern Europe at Colt, emphasises: “Adam’s investment in its new data centre in Barcelona is part of the region’s transformation into a key connectivity hub at the national, European, and global levels. Our expansion strategy in the Iberian Peninsula aligns perfectly with this project.

Strategic Connectivity for Artificial Intelligence in Europe

Adam and Colt strengthen their commitment to innovation and technological development as part of the prestigious European project “AI Factory“, led by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.

Through a dark fibre connection contracted with Colt, Adam ensures secure, high-capacity communication between its data centre in Barcelona and MareNostrum.

This joint effort positions both companies as key players in the digital ecosystem, reinforcing Barcelona’s role as a European hub for artificial intelligence and supercomputing.

Parc de l’Alba: The Future of Digital Infrastructure

Parc de l’Alba in Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona, is emerging as a key hub for technological infrastructure development in Catalonia. In this location, Adam is building a new 12,000 m² data centre featuring modular technical rooms and an initial capacity of 5 MW. This facility will be one of the most advanced in Southern Europe, designed to meet the growing demands of technology companies.

Colt, in turn, is expanding its network in the area to provide advanced connectivity and support the development of Barcelona’s digital ecosystem. Joan Monraba, General Director of Colt Spain, highlights: “The strategic alliance between Colt and Adam addresses the growing demand for colocation space while meeting the need for connectivity through a secure fibre network linking national and international markets via terrestrial and submarine routes.

Future Perspectives: A Digital Bridge for Europe

The strategic alignment between Adam and Colt not only ensures the success of current projects but also lays the foundation for a seamlessly connected digital future. Both companies share an expansion vision that will further strengthen Spain’s position as a key digital gateway in Europe.

With initiatives such as the development of Parc de l’Alba and Barcelona’s growing prominence as a digital hub, Adam and Colt are poised to be key players in the region’s technological transformation. Jose Mejías sums it up perfectly: “The close collaboration between Adam and Colt will allow us to tackle the challenges of the sector with total confidence in our success.
